Municipality of Karlovo, Bulgaria
The Municipality of Karlovo consists of 27 settlements - 4 town s and 23 villages with a total population of 62 000 inhabitants. As a local authority the Municipality develops and implements various policies - economic, social, environmental etc. Energy efficiency and introduction of RES and stimulation of RUE is among the key priorities of the Municipality. So far the Municipality of Karlovo has implemented a lot of energy efficiency measures such as: energy efficient street lighting in all the municipal settlements, total renovation with energy efficiency measures of all the 5 kindergartens in the town of Karlovo, carrying out a preliminary survey for the pilot establishment of a wind farm, setting up an Energy Agency under the IEE programme, improving the energy efficiency of the Home for elderly people with mental deficiencies, partnering in the SEC-Tools project and carrying out awareness raising campaigns together with the Sub-Balkan Energy Agency.
